Aval Payasam – Gokulashtami Treats

Ingredients 
  • 1 cup rice flakes (poha)
  • 1 cube butter
  • 3/4 c sugar
  • 1/2 c grated coconut
  • 5 almonds, soaked and peeled
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom
  • 2 cups evaporated milk (half and half)
  • 10 cashew nuts
  • 1 fistful raisins

Method 

  1. In a wide wok, melt butter and add rice flakes, fry till it turns golden. Set aside.
  2. Melt another cube of butter and fry cashew nuts and raisins as well. Set aside.
  3. Wet-grind the coconut and almonds to thick paste, set aside.
  4. In a wide vessel, prepare a strong sugar syrup. Add cardamom and rice flakes to it.
  5. Further add evaporates milk. wet-ground paste to it.  Bring this to boil. Top it up with fried nuts and raisins.
