Lunch Box Ideas for Kids and Adults

  • Stock the pantry with essentials. Do weekly shopping for fresh produce, meat and seafood.
  • Prepare a weekly menu planner. Stick to the plan.
  • Bear in mind…that whenever, we tweak an original recipe or just omit a side dish…the boxed food is going to be a disaster!
  • Everyday (especially on weekdays) make a commitment to prepare one-elaborate meal (usually dinner), the intentional left-overs are the best for the next day’s lunch box. Works well…at least where I live. :)
  • Keep a track of what everyone likes in the menu & make sure to have one dish that fits everyone’s lunch box.
  • Some dishes are really very good for packed lunches (when it is eaten cold/not-so-warm)…like chappathi, mint chutney, tomato pickle, lemon rice, fried rice, chicken-rice, cauliflower…etc.
  • Mix match every dish with accompanied treats. For example, strawberries and yogurts are best side dishes for a dry-naan bread;  fried chicken nuggets could be balanced with juicy oranges and sour-cream.
  • Balance the meal with toasted nuts, cheese sticks and cut-fruits…etc.
  • If the kid only nibbles during the lunch time, choose wisely…a high calorie snack bar or grilled meat or starch loaded potatoes…could do the trick.
  • Happy School Year, kiddos. :)
