Baby Food – Mashed, Minced and Slurpees

Mashed Food

The ideal time to introduce the puree or semi-solid food to babies varies between 4-6 months old. A transition from milk (Mom’s breast milk or formula) to puree food is a great way to include our ethnic food or meat protein in the diet. All based on our interest and Baby’s needs! However, one could mash up anything from fruit to chicken biriyani…this phase was quite a challenge at my end! Well, I didn’t start the “puree foods” until the end of seventh month. First mistake! And, kept nursing…the other mistake! But, I did puree and blend a whole lot of ingredients and experimented all through the day…crawling away, spitting, gag, screaming…you name it, I had it! Finally, the only food that worked was Rice-cereals with Breast milk. :)

Mashed Food Ideas For Babies

  • Vegetables – Carrots, Sweet potato, Louisiana Yam, Green peas, Cauliflower, Potato, Beets…etc.
  • Fruits- Avocado, Banana, Pomegranate, Mango…etc
  • Greens – Spinach.
  • Grains – Oats, Rice cereals.
  • Nuts & Pulses.

Note – I used Mother’s milk to mix most of the cereals. One could also try adding fruit juice or formula as blending ingredient.
