Hush Puppies – Southern Delight!

Hush Puppies is my all time breakfast favorite. Although tasted it in quite a number of places…the best came from ‘Cracker Barrel’ a true Southern County Style Restaurant chain here. I am just wondering, how a chain of restaurant…still managed to collect so many pieces of antiques almost uniform in all their places…wow! Back to the recipe…its a simple and delicate dish. Calls for just the basic ingredients and gets transformed into a delectable treat in minutes. Sounds amazing, right. Here you go…

Ingredients:2012-11-12

  • Corn meal 1 cup
  • Egg 1
  • Green onion, 2 chopped
  • Jalapeno, 1 chopped
  • Brown sugar 1/4 cup
  • salt
  • Milk to mix the batter
  • Oil for frying

Method:

  1. Place all  the ingredients together (except oil and milk) and mix well.
  2. Add milk and prepare a batter, dropping consistency will do.
  3. Drop them in desired shapes in hot oil and deep fry them.  Wait till it is crisp on the outside and golden brown.
  4. Serve up while it is steaming hot.
