Milagu Adai / Anjeneyar Koil Thattai – Temple Food

Milagu Adai:

Ulundhu Thattai. Ulundhu Otta-Vadai. Ulundhu Elladai.

This is much similar to Anumaar Kovil Vadai. I have already posted Anumaar Kovil Prasaad. (Where the vadai is much moist and made with the Urad Batter). This is given as Prashaad in JallaGandeswarer Temple, Vellore Fort.(The only difference is, they use powdered urad dal). It could be stored for longer period.

Ingredients:

Urad dal (coarsely ground in a mill/mixie)1cup
Rice flour 1 fistful
Salt
Peppercorns 1 fistful – coarsely groud/hand pound
Cumin seeds 2 spoons – hand pound
Dry curry leaves 2 spoons – crumbled
Chili powder – as per taste(optional)
Asafoetida 1/2 spoon(toasted)
Sesame seeds 1 spoon(optional)
Oil for deep frying.

Method:

Combine all the above said items, except oil. Use luke warm water and knead them to doungh dough.

Now make equal parts out of it. Small roundels will do.

In a mica/polythene/plastic sheet, smear oil. Now place this roundel and close with the sheet. Gentle tap them/roll them to adai. Repeat the same for all the dough.

Deep fry them in hot oil, maybe till reddish brown and nice and crisp.

Serve warm or at room temeperature. You could store them in an air tight containe(after bringing them to room temperature).

Makes a good snack for tea time.
