Paruppu Podi / Poondu Paruppu Podi

Also Known As: Paruppu Podi,Chettinadu Paruppu Podi. Poondu Podi. Dal Powder. Lentil’s Powder – to go with Rice. Andhra Gun Powder for Steamed Rice.
Ingredients:

  • Thuvar dal 1 cup
  • Raw rice ½ cup
  • Asafoetida 1 tsp
  • Dry red chilies 15
  • Salt
  • Jaggery a little bit
  • Tamarind paste, 1/4 tsp

 

Method:

  1. Heat an iron wok over medium flame. Dry toast ‘thuvar dal’ for few minutes. Maybe till it turns golden color.
  2. Dry toast the rice too and followed by other ingredients.
  3. Now coarsely powder them all together. Leave this powder on a wide tray for some time. Then store in an air-tight container.
  4. Serve this along with rice. Mix this powder with steam cooked rice. Run few spoons of ghee or sesame oil on the top. Enjoy.
