Also Known As: Thengai Thuvaiyal. Thuvaram Paruppu Thuvaiyal.
A quick fix dish when we run out of veggies…and, hate to shop at the same time. The recipe calls for just the basic ingredients from the pantry. It takes about few minutes to whip and yet its a comforting entry to finish the day. My personal suggestion is to team it up with steamed rice, pipping hot rasam and Thengai Thuvaiyal…nothing more. Its heaven.
Ingredients:
- Thoor dal 1 cup
- Whole black pepper 3-4
- Dry red chili 3-4
- Garlic 4-5 cloves
- Fresh Coconut 7-10 pieces
- Salt
For Seasoning:
- Sesame oil few tsp
- Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
- Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
- Urad dal 1/2 tsp
- Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
- Dry Red Chilies 3
- Curry leaves few
Method:
- In a dry pan dry toast thoor dal, pepper and chilies.
- Mix the remaining ingredients with it and wet grind them.
- In a shallow pan, heat oil. Add seasoning items one by one in the same order. Then runt his over the wet-ground paste. Thuvaiyal Ready!
- Serve to go with steamed rice. My personal choice is with Rasam.
