Also Known As: Thengai Thuvaiyal. Thuvaram Paruppu Thuvaiyal.
A quick fix dish when we run out of veggies…and, hate to shop at the same time. :) The recipe calls for just the basic ingredients from the pantry. It takes about few minutes to whip and yet its a comforting entry to finish the day. My personal suggestion is to team it up with steamed rice, pipping hot rasam and Thengai Thuvaiyal…nothing more. :) Its heaven. :)
Ingredients:
  • Thoor dal 1 cup
  • Whole black pepper 3-4
  • Dry red chili 3-4
  • Garlic 4-5 cloves
  • Fresh Coconut 7-10 pieces
  • Salt

For Seasoning:

  • Sesame oil few tsp
  • Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
  • Dry Red Chilies 3
  • Curry leaves few

Method:

  1. In a dry pan dry toast thoor dal, pepper and chilies.
  2. Mix the remaining ingredients with it and wet grind them.
  3. In a shallow pan, heat oil. Add seasoning items one by one in the same order. Then runt his over the wet-ground paste. Thuvaiyal Ready!
  4. Serve to go with steamed rice. My personal choice is with Rasam.
