Treasure Chest Birthday Cake – A Pot Of Gold

As a Mom, we all have a deep desire to make our Kid’s Birthday Party Magical and Special. After all, it’s a gentle reminder to re-visit our own childhood past! :) My little girl is turning twelve today and, I’ve planned on a one of a kind, Epic, Delicious – Treasure Cake! So, here we are with an Epic Treasure Hunt Story.

In Search Of Magic and Treasure Untold I have been been ruminating this idea for a very long time!! I really love the idea of this cake — Almost  like A Pot Of Gold and when you cut into it, the edible treasures…of all the Golden goodies fall out of it. :) Sounds amazing, right!

It’s basically a simple cake! Although, it demands a bit of effort and a clear planning to make it! But, trust me…its absolutely worth it!

Well, there are so many treasures in this cake just waiting to be discovered!  Please check out the making and remember to X-marks the Spot! :)

How To Make The Treasure Chest

To begin with…
Yes! Right guess!
As always…it’s Chocolate Cake!

Sometimes…it’s overwhelming to plan and execute even the simplest of simple cake, as a host! Especially when you’re not fond of baking!! So, if you’re like me…(someone who rarely bakes) there is a hack! We can opt for a rectangle cake! It’s a fairly simple fix! No fancy cuts nor any scary frosting demands! This Treasure Chest is another spin on that concept!

We are never too young nor too old to crave for a chocolate cake! So, this Golden opportunity guarantees success to everyone!

The Actual Making Of Treasure Chest Cake

To begin with: I baked three cakes

1. Rectangle Cake – The Base to set the Treasure Chest (I prepared it as a beach setting)

2. Rectangle Cake – In a bread pan (for the treasure chest)

3. Thin Rectangle Cake – In a bread pan (for the lid of the treasure chest)

Unleashing The Explorer Within

The Base is quite simple. Just bake it and put some white frosting! And dust it with light brown granulated sugar (that gives it a nice beach sand feeling). Maybe, in one corner…you can play with a bit of blue and white icing – to show a Sea kind of feel! Also, you can use a couple of Sweet Tarts Candy ropes to mark the beach spot – X. It’ll be beautiful. (We skipped it, though)

On The Gold Quest

The Chest I used chocolate frosting to go on top. Followed by a bit of black icing – just a dab bit of it here and there for an old box kind-of touch!! Then, I used a toothpick to do some vertical and horizontal marks (like on a real wooden box!) Finally, I dusted it with some Hershey’s Nesquick cocoa powder to bring a rustic effect to the chest!

I Found A Map For Endless Treasure

The Lid Repeat the same procedure to the lid as well. Additionally, add a couple of Kit-Kat bars to construct the lid. The Kit-Kat is breakable so feel free to chisel it to use it as a brick to build your style of chest! I used it as a hinge! Please remember to use frosting to glue it to the cake! Finally, even it out with brown frosting! Voila! (Construction Done!) Now, here…I’ve opted a couple of skewers to mount the lid over the chest cake! Then, I played along with golden gel over the edges as a finishing touch and adorned it with golden pearls.

No more extravagant features to it! Just stick around the theme and play along! Everything falls at the right place! (If not, do not worry much…it’s a treasure, so it’s okay if something is scattered along…lol).

Lost In The Land Of Sparkling Gems

The Lock I used a heart shaped Lindt chocolate as a lock to the chest. To paint it gold, I used gold edible dust! And, added a key shaped hole with black icing.

Finder’s Keepers!

In the end, somehow I put everything together and it turned out Great! Achievable. :)

Fill the chest - With colored hard candies! Gem shaped candies. Add Gold and Silver wrapped chocolate coins! Pearls…jewels. Bring in your ideas and fill it up!

Add More Candies - Adorn with gems like candies as though its over-flowing with richness (the true concept of our treasure).

Create A Setting - My favorite part! Just play along with the theme…add Sand, X- marks the spot, throw in some gold bars, pearl necklaces, gems…(all edible, okay!) and etc.17

Props  - Bring a map, telescope, lens, pirate ship, etc. Just play along with your theme. :)

That’s

A treasure

I saved for you.

Now,

Spread the love

I am everywhere

Around You!”
