Green Gram Sundal

Green Gram Sundal

Pachai Payaru Sundal:

Pesarupappu Sundal. Muzhu Paasiparuppu Sundal,

Lentils are rich in protein, it could be a very filling meal for dieters. When we are on diet, we really watch what we eat. The bad time to snack upon anything is late afternoon & at evenings. So before we grab hot puffs or deep fried samosas….a easy fix tiffin ‘Sundal’ would be a good idea. Generally protein will make you feel full, when we have just 1 servings…whereas a fatty food will take time to do the same job. Sounds so strange to me. (The low calorie protein leaves us full just within 1 helpings & fatty food, which are more in calories….take long time, 2-3 helpings to make us feel full, that’s too bad). Its not possible to be conscious all the time. It happens to me, when I grab nuts as a snack. So to play it safe….I prefer lentils and salads stuff like that. So just put this on back of your mind, before taking any rich snack.

As most people think….its doesn’t require ‘soaking’ for a long time. We could make them in minutes. Although imbibing is a good idea! Well….I just toasted them today, to give a toasted & nutty flavor!

Ingredients:

Green Gram 1 cup
Salt
Turmeric powder 1/4 spoon
Dry red chilies 3-5
Garlic 6-9 cloves with skin, crushed
Ginger 1″ grated
Curry leaves few
Mustard seeds 1/4 spoon
Cumin seeds 1/4 spoon
Asafoetida 1/4 spoon
Chana+Urad dal 1 spoon
Sesame oil few spoons.

Method:

Pressure cook lentils with limited water + salt, maybe till 1-2 whistles. Retain the water.

In a deep wok, heat oil. Add tempering spices, wait till they splutter.

Then add cooked lentils. Let them get all spiced up, cook over high heat until all the moisture evaporates up.

Serve as a snack or as a side dish.
