- 1/2 cup urid dal
- 1/2 cup raw rice
- 1/2 cup parboiled rice
- salt to taste
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp sesame oil
Method
Soak the lentils and rice separately for about 5-7 hours. Then, wet-grind it each separately and then mix them together. Now, add salt, baking soda and oil to it. Allow this to ferment over the counter. It could take roughly 7-9 hours on a decent weather day.
Smear the idly ladles with oil or butter and spoon-in the batter. Steam cook it for about 7-10 minutes over medium heat. The idlies are ready, serve steaming hot with chutney and sambar.
