Eral Masala Kuzhambu:(Chettinad Style)
Eral/Iral/Yera Kuzhambu. Prawns/Shrimps Chettinad Kuzhambu. Prawns in Masala Gravy.
Hotel Anjappar Style Eral Kuzhambu and Hotel Ponnu Swamy Style Eral Kuzhambu. I always liked Chettinad people’s Non-Veg preparations. Its simply unbeatable. One of the spiciest and Fiery hot, but its worth trying at least once!!!
Ingredients:
Shrimps/Prawns 1/2 kilo(shelled, grey prawns will be good choice)
Salt
Turmeric powder 1/4 spoon
Onion 1 small
Tomatoes 2
Dry Red Chilies 7-10
Ginger 2″
Garlic 10 pods
Pepper 1-2 Spoons
Fennel seeds 1 + 1 spoon
Curry leaves few
Oil few spoons.
Method:
In a wok, heat oil. Add ginger, garlic, onion and tomatoes. Fry for a while and wet-grind them to thick paste. Set aside.
In a blender, powder chilies, salt, turmeric, pepper and 1 spoon of fennel seeds together. Set this aside too.
In a wide wok, heat oil. Add fennel seeds and curry leaves. Then followed by wet-ground paste. Fry real good. Maybe till oil shows up on sides.
Now stir-in powdered spices and shrimps. Cover and cook over medium heat. Maybe till the shrimps are done and gravy thickens.
Let the gravy turn aromatic and oil show up on sides, remove from heat.
Serve warm to go with Kal-Dosa, Idly, Appam, Barrota or Plain Rice.

Thanks for the compliments. For about quarter kilogram of shrimps/prawn use 2 cups of water. Hope it turns out good for you.
