Whenever I find sour fruits in the market, I instantly think of turning them into ‘rasam’. A simple touch of fruits makes this humble rasam, even more comforting! And there is absolutely no disputes at the dinner table…how about that! So, here you go…my take on ‘Madhulai Rasam’.
Ingredients:
Pomogranate fruit – 1 (extract juice)
Thoor dal cooked water alone – 2 cups
Tomato – 2 crushed
Lemon juice – from 1 fruit
Salt
Turmeric powder 1/4 spoon
Asafoetida 1/4 spoon
Coriander leaves few
Curry leaves few
Garlic 5-7 crushed
Red chilies 3-5
Mustard seeds 1/2 spoon
Ghee few spoons.
To be roasted and powdered
Pepper 1 spoon
Cumin 2 spoons
Red red chilies2
Curry leaves few
Thoor dal 1 spoon
Method:
In a large wok/kadai….heat ghee. Add mustard, asafoetida and curry leaves to this. Further add garlic and red chilies.
Now add thoor dal cooked water, chopped tomatoes and powdered spices to this. Bring this to boil and reduce the heat.
Then add pomogranate juice and lemon juice and immediately remove from heat.
Add chopped coriander leaves and serve along with steam cooked basmati rice.
