One of the nicest things about Hindu homes is our festivals; we have such a variety, that there is something to suit everyone’s taste. I love the community of a festival that everyone can gather to have good time. And, about festival foods…most of the time, it can be challenging, taunting and also expensive. However, if you take a deep look into the traditions…it usually calls for the local ingredients and easy fix solutions of the season. In fact, most of the festivals did arise out of necessity. So, here you go…my humble take on simple Poha Laadu. Happy Gokulashtami.
Ingredients
- 1 c flattened rice flakes (aval/poha)
- 3/4 c white sugar / jaggery
- 1/2 c grated coconut
- 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
- 1 tsp ghee
Method
- Prepare a thick sugar syrup (I wanted snow white laddus). But you guys…please feel free to use jaggery for more authentic touch.
- In a wide wok, toast coconut, set aside.
- Rinse aval in clean water and hold them in a colander. Mash it up and add cardamom powder to it.
- Now, mix all the items together and prepare small laddus. Done? Then, what are you waiting for? Enjoy.
