Dry Shrimps Rice / Unakku Chemmeen Choru

Dry Shrimps Rice:
I found these teeny ones in Korean market. Hoping that I could spot any Indian veggies…..I wandered and wandered. Hmmm….finally got some dried shrimps and anchovies. If you have never tasted dried fish/shrimps….I got to warn you. It stinks. Its darn stinks very badly. Although after cooking….it won’t so much.

Ingredients:

Dried shrimps 1 fistful
Cold cooked rice 2 cups
Curry leaves few chopped
Green chili 1 chopped
Purple/Spanish Onion 1 large (fienly chopped)
Garlic 1 head peeled and chopped
Tomatoes 2 fienly chopped
Salt
Turmeric powder 1/4 spoon
Chili powder 1 spoon
Mustard seeds 1/2 spoon
Cumin seeds 1/2 spoon
Oil few spoons.

Method:

In a wok, heat oil. Add mustard, cumin, chilies and curry leaves. Wait till they pop.

Add garlic and onion. Fry real good…till they are fragrant.

Now add tomatoes too. Cover and cook till they wilt.

When oil shows up on sids, stir-in shrimps, salt, turmeric and chili powders to it.

Cover and cook until they are done. Finally stir-in rice and fry over high heat for 2 minutes.

Remove from heat and serve as main dish.
