Counter-top ice cream is certainly a fun activity for kids. There is a gross motor skills involved and a bonus treat at the end! My little one did this team building activity as a part of her fun special Science experiment ( last month during remote learning – Kindergarten).
The Science Project
Planning
What kind of ice-cream is doable!
Check list – ingredients at home.
Will this treat be tasty?
Supply list – zip lock bags, mixing tools, etc.
Ingredients
- 1 can evaporated milk
- 1 cup skim milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- few saffron strands
- 1 tsp grated pistachios
- 1 tsp grated almonds
- 1 cup rock salt
- zip lock bags / cups
- mixing cups, spoons
Lets discuss about the methodology a little bit and listen to what their ideas are. This can be an excellent writing material, later on.
The recipe
Made a quick sugary syrup and emptied the evaporated milk into this and did a basic boiling. Then, cooled it down to room temperature. Before handing it over to my girl.
Kid’s Activity
Little one did her part of mixing the ingredients together (the fun part). The recipe is amazing for many reasons…like scoop and pour practice and playing with ice…sprinkling ceremony! And, I liked the part of mess-free kitchen at the end.
The Yummy Treat
A talk about conversation – always happens in the kitchen; the homemade treat makes one talk more.
