Pudhina Chutney – Mint Chutney

Carolina Cooking345Also known as: Pudhina Chutney, Podhina chutney, Pudina chutney.

Ingredients

  • Coconut grated 1/4 cup
  • Mint leaves alone 1-2 cups
  • Cilantro 1/2 bunch
  • Curry leaves few
  • Salt
  • Tamarind 1/4 spoon
  • Ginger 1″ grated
  • Garlic 2 cloves minced
  • Urad dal 2 spoons
  • Green chilies 3
  • Sesame oil few spoons.

For Tempering:

  • Sesame oil
  • Mustard seeds
  • Cumin seeds
  • Asafoetida
  • Chana+urad dal
  • Dry red chilies
  • Curry leaves.

Method:

  1. Heat oil, in a wok. Stir-fry all the above mentioned items.
  2. Blend and puree them. Temper the spices in hot oil and run this seasoning over the chutney made.
  3. Serve this as a spicy relish to your tiffin.

    this is avvery different mint chutny than we make in the north of india….many versions but curry patta is never used with pudina here….the flavors of this chutny will be great for me though..

    THAT is a SPLENDID! Green Bowl…. Through out……. Loved the color & the texture of the chutney….. The best I liked is what went to it was just not ONLY mint, but other healthy greens too…. AWESOME!!!!

    this is a unique mint chutney, Malar.. the one i make just has mint, cilantro, lemon and salt-pepper. i should try your version, sounds so delicious with coconut.
