Lemon Rice – Temple Style

Ingredients

  • 1 cup – cooked rice
  • 1-2 lemons, juice
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 3 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • curry leaves few
  • 1-2 tsp chana-urad dal
  • 1 pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 fistful peanuts / cashew nuts
  • few tsp sesame oil

Method  

In a wide pan, heat oil and add all the tempering spices. Then, add chilies, ginger and lemon juice to it. Further add salt and turmeric too. When its sizzles, remove from heat and run this over the cooked (but at the same time cold-room temperature rice) rice. Mix well. Serves well as a lunch box dish. Enjoy.

    Is that adding seseme Oil makes it tastes like Temple lemon rice..

    Amma used to make mostly lemon and tamrind rice in seaseme oil only…

  8. I like the idea of keeping them in box for 2-3 hours, as truely these kind of rices taste better when they are little old.

    Oh Jaleela, I made a typo’…its 1 table spoon lemon juice for one large cup of rice. I always assume, people know rice cup is different from measuring cup…ooops:( Maybe next time, I will be specific.
